Every day, we ask more of our first responders than we do of almost anyone else. They selflessly, instinctively and heroically put themselves in harm’s way to keep the people of O’ahu safe, and I was heartbroken to learn about the tragic events that unfolded last night.
We are devastated by the passing of the 91-year-old patient in last night’s incident, and our hearts go out to his family and friends.
To the loved ones and colleagues of the Honolulu paramedic who was critically injured last night, we join you in praying for his speedy recovery and promise to do everything we possibly can to support you during this difficult time.
Mahalo to everyone across the state — and across the country — who has reached out to show support and offer assistance to the men and women of our Department of Emergency Services during this difficult time.

毎日、私たちは他の誰よりも救急・警察・消防に頼っています。彼らはオアフ島の人々の安全を守るために無私無欲で全身で危険を顧みずに任務にあたっています。昨夜起こった悲惨な出来事を知り、心が張り裂けそうになりました。昨夜の事故で91歳の患者が亡くなり、私たちは本当に打ちひしがれています。被害者の家族や友人にお悔やみを申し上げます。昨夜の事故で重傷を負った救急隊員の家族や同僚の皆さんとともに隊員の1日も早い回復を祈り、できるだけの支援を提供することを約束します。この困難な時に、州内はもとより国中からホノルル市救急サービス局の隊員全員に対して支援を申し出てくださった皆様に感謝します。
